I was lost in a role that didn’t fit, playing the part of a wife and mother in a script I didn’t write. My identity was buried under layers of obligation, expectation, and sacrifice that came with these titles. The woman I once knew – vibrant, ambitious, daring – became a shadow, a ghost of her former self, haunting the corridors of a life that no longer felt like mine. I entered it with love and hope but quickly my idenity was erased minute by minute. Day by day. Then when I had my daughter regardless of how I felt about my marriage I knew I needed to do what was needed to take care of her.Â

I became a master at playing the part, smiling when expected, nurturing everyone’s needs but my own. The role of motherhood, while filled with moments of pure joy and unconditional love, further complicated my search for my identity. The line between me and the roles I played blurred until I couldn’t tell where they ended and I began.
